Activity 2. Algorithm for finding the most desirable mushrooms
Now that we’ve identified the bad “secret agents” of mushrooms, let’s look at the other side of the coin. Some mushrooms are so good and desirable that people invest huge amounts of money to find these mushrooms.
Following the algorithm given below, work with the information given in Worksheet 2. The most desirable mushrooms. Conclude and classify the mushrooms according to the two given criteria.
First: Look at the table with 10 of the most preferred mushrooms in the world. Read carefully the description for each mushroom.
Second: Examine the suggested criteria and keep track of the scoring for each one. Suggest further options for criteria and scoring, if you feel it necessary.
Third: Complete the “Determining Difficulty” table on Worksheet 2. Note the last column – ‘Total difficulty’.
Fourth: Complete the activity by filling in the last table and determine which mushroom is the most desirable and therefore the most difficult to find. Make a diagram against the last table for better visualization. You can use Word or Excel.
