Activity 1. Determination of air pressure at different altitudes
The Aiguille du Midi is located in the Mont Blanc area in the French Alps, near the Swiss ski resort of Chamonix. A cable car leaves from the town centre (1035 m) and ascends to the summit at an altitude of 3842 m. There is a refreshment buffet at the starting station.
- Look at the graph of the dependence of atmospheric pressure on altitude.
- Determine at what temperature the water in the buffet boils.
- Also use the graph of the dependence of the boiling temperature of the water on pressure. Round the numbers appropriately.
