Activity 2. Determination of pressure versus altitude
Recall the units used to measure atmospheric pressure:
1 Pa (pascal) = N/m²
1 hPa (hectopascal) = 100 Pa
1 kPa (kilopascal) = 1 000 Pa
Instructions for students:
- Read the information below:
In the literature, the average atmospheric pressure for Slovakia is 1 013,25 hPa. At this pressure, water boils at a temperature of 100 degrees Celsius. The following extreme values of atmospheric pressure have been measured on the territory of the former Czechoslovakia:
- absolute maximum of 1 055,4 hPa in Khurbanovo
- an absolute minimum of 970,1 hPa in Hradec Kralove
- Determine the boiling point of water at the given extreme pressures.
- Help with the graph of the dependence of the boiling point of water on pressure.
