Chemistry at Home

The task is to investigate the hazardous chemicals that are contained in our everyday products. The class is divided into three groups, each of which will explore one of the following categories: food, cleaning products, or cosmetics.

1. Research on your own at home the chemicals contained in the product category assigned to your group – food, cleaning products or cosmetics. Choose 5 of the most commonly used in your home and try to find out what makes them dangerous (what other substances they react with, under what conditions they pose a threat, etc.). Record the results of your research.
2. Share your observations with the rest of the group, and together identify 5 products for which to tabulate your research using Worksheet 1.  Dangers in our home.
3. Present the results of the group work to the class.

While one group presents the results of their research, the others complete the information on their worksheets.
