Chemistry Inside of Us

What I learned

❖ The stomach produces a substance called gastric acid, which causes acidity of the stomach and performs important functions in the digestive process. Stomach acid is a mixture of hydrochloric acid and other acids. Hydrochloric acid is the main component of stomach acid, and it is this acid that gives the stomach its acidic pH. Some factors that affect the acidity of the stomach are: food, medicines, stress, etc. Normally, the pH of the stomach is around 1.5-3.5.

pH is a fundamental concept in chemistry and biology. It plays a key role in maintaining health, energy and alkaline-acid balance in the body. Keeping it within a normal range can contribute to our overall well-being and vitality.

Medicines affect people chemically by interacting with the body’s natural chemicals called neurotransmitters. Neurotransmitters are chemicals that send signals between nerve cells in the brain and the nervous system. They are involved in many different functions, including mood, pain, sleep, and memory.

Chemistry is everywhere in our body, some examples are: blood, skin, muscles, digestive system, brain, etc.
