Take Your Bike

What I learned

❖  In our everyday life, the bicycle is becoming an emblem of modern urban living and one of the best solutions for getting around in urban environments. It is a symbol of a healthy lifestyle, of environmental protection from noise and harmful emissions, and one of the most affordable and effective ways to keep fit and reduce stress. Despite these benefits, cyclists also face various challenges and problems – physical, psychological, and technical. The most important of these are related to safety, the poor condition of roads and the lack of a network of cycle lanes, weather conditions, cyclist training and compliance with traffic rules. To make the most of the benefits of cycling, it is necessary to create a cycling culture and tolerance between cyclists, pedestrians and drivers.

❖  The Tour de France cycling race is one of the oldest and most prestigious in Europe. It features proven professional cyclists and teams from around the world. Each year it is held on a different route including flat, semi-mountainous, mountain stages and time trials. The majority of the route is within France. The final stage destination is usually in the capital of France, Paris. The race enjoys the interest of millions of spectators, is filled with many dramatic moments and overcoming numerous challenges and strong competition. It is a symbol of endurance, sportsmanship, drive to win and overcoming oneself.

Teams and individual cyclists use different strategies to win individual stages and take the top positions.

Cyclists are judged in several categories:

  • the yellow jersey is the symbol of the Tour de France and belongs to the best overall rider
  • the red polka dot jersey is for the best climber
  • the green jersey is worn by the best sprinter
  • the white jersey is awarded to the best young athlete under the age of 26.
