The goals of the Statistics Online Computational Resource (SOCR) are to design, validate and freely disseminate knowledge. Our Resource specifically provides portable online aids for probability and statistics education, technology based instruction and statistical computing. SOCR tools and resources include a repository of interactive applets, computational and graphing tools, instructional and course materials.
Course instructors and teachers will find the SOCR class notes and interactive tools useful for student motivation, concept demonstrations and for enhancing their technology based pedagogical approaches to any study of variation and uncertainty. Students and trainees may find the SOCR class notes, analyses, computational and graphing tools extremely useful in their learning/practicing pursuits.

This is an Internet-based probability and statistics E-Book. The materials, tools and demonstrations presented in this E-Book would be very useful for advanced-placement (AP) statistics educational curriculum. The E-Book is initially developed by the UCLA Statistics Online Computational Resource (SOCR). However, all statistics instructors, researchers and educators are encouraged to contribute to this project and improve the content of these learning materials.
There are 4 novel features of this specific Statistics EBook. It is community-built, completely open-access (in terms of use and contributions), blends information technology, scientific techniques and modern pedagogical concepts, and is multilingual

Social stratification involves looking at how scarce resources are distributed in society. In the United States, income is obviously one important scarce resource. Social stratification has consequences. At the individual level, income is related to life consequences, such as the quality and quantity of education, health care, and housing one obtains, and even the how long one lives. This exercise looks at a few aspects of stratification and its consequences.
