This segregation simulation is based off the work of Nobel Prize-winning game theorist, Thomas Schelling. Specifically, his 1971 paper, Dynamic Models of Segregation. We built on top of this, and showed how a small demand for diversity can desegregate a neighborhood.

The term health disparities refers to population-specific differences in the presence of disease, health outcomes, quality of health care, and access to health care services that exist across racial and ethnic groups.Over the last 50 years, African Americans and other minority groups have made significant economic and educational strides. But these advances have been tempered by continuing disparities in health and health care compared to Whites. Despite substantial policy efforts to the contrary, racial and ethnic minorities, especially African-Americans, often receive a lower quality of care and have worse outcomes. In this exercise, we will explore racial disparities in health and healthcare in the US, focusing on some of the barriers to access and quality healthcare.

The long-term debt of the United States is rising to unprecedented – and unsustainable – levels. Under official budget projections, the public debt of the U.S. is projected to grow to about 100% of the economy by 2035 and nearly 150% and still climbing by 2050. Debt at these levels will threaten economic growth and the standard of living for all Americans. This simulation was designed to illustrate the tough budget choices that will have to be made and to promote a public dialogue on how we can set a sustainable fiscal course. How do your choices stack up?
